Tuesday 6/16 — Webull Canada opened 8 p.m.–4 a.m. ET U.S. stock trading.
Wednesday 6/17 — Coinbase planned 24/7, 1:1-backed tokenized U.S. stocks offshore.
Thursday 6/18 — CME sued CFTC over Kalshi’s May 29 BTCPERP approval.
Friday 6/19 — Kalshi perps topped $5.5 billion in two-week volume.
Saturday 6/20 — 24X filed tokenized trading for Russell 1000 stocks and ETFs.
The Week's Throughline
The dominant shift was not simply longer hours; it was regulated venues importing crypto-market mechanics into TradFi products. Perps, tokenized equities and overnight stock sessions all moved toward the same endpoint: continuous exposure with institutional rulebooks wrapped around previously offshore or fragmented market structures.
The Moves That Mattered
- Regulated perps became a U.S. venue fight, not a crypto novelty. Kraken’s June 15 launch and Kalshi’s $5.5 billion two-week start turned no-expiry futures into a live competitive category inside the CFTC perimeter.
- CME forced the legal question that will define the market. Its June 18 challenge asks whether perps are futures or swaps, which determines who can list them, how they are reviewed and whether the CFTC’s fast lane survives.
- Overnight equities kept expanding before NYSE or Nasdaq got there. Webull Canada’s June 16 rollout used Blue Ocean ATS and Bruce Markets to offer more than 12,000 U.S. stocks and ETFs from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. ET.
- Tokenized stocks split into offshore wrappers and exchange plumbing. Coinbase’s June 17 plan targets non-U.S. users with 1:1-backed, 24/7 onchain stock tokens, while 24X’s June 20 filing tries to attach tokenized settlement to the same regulated U.S. equity order book.
- The unified book became the serious tokenization test. 24X’s proposal keeps tokenized and traditional shares fungible under the same ticker and CUSIP, avoiding a separate token-only liquidity pool.
By The Numbers
- U.S. regulated crypto perp launch slate — 9 underlyings at Kraken: BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, ADA, LINK, DOGE, LTC, AVAX (Monday 6/15).
- Overnight U.S. equity window — 8 p.m.–4 a.m. ET, Sunday through Friday; more than 12,000 symbols (Tuesday 6/16).
- Kalshi perp volume — more than $5.5 billion in first two weeks; 11 contracts listed, up from BTCPERP alone after May 29 approval (Friday 6/19).
- Tokenized equity universe proposed — Russell 1000 stocks plus major ETFs on 24X’s same exchange book (Saturday 6/20).
The Landscape Shift
Market structure this week moved from access expansion to plumbing redesign. Retail brokers extended the U.S. equity clock through ATS rails; crypto-native venues brought perpetual funding mechanics into CFTC-supervised accounts; and tokenized-stock issuers began competing on whether the product is a synthetic exposure, a 1:1 offshore claim or a same-CUSIP exchange-traded security with tokenized settlement instructions. The center of gravity is shifting from “can users trade after hours?” to “which venue controls the book, collateral, settlement path and legal classification when trading never stops?”
Next Week's Watch
- Monday 6/22 — Watch the CME-CFTC docket for whether CME seeks fast injunctive relief against Kalshi-style perps or limits the case to classification and process.
- Tuesday 6/23 — Monitor the SEC file for SR-24X-2026-20 comments after the June 16 notice of 24X’s tokenized-stock proposal.
- Friday 6/26 — Check Webull Canada’s beta expansion and any Blue Ocean overnight-volume signals after its first full week of 24/5 U.S. equity trading.
